[5 min watch] Spitz naevi: Prof Giuseppe Argenziano | July 2021

In this skin cancer update video, Professor Giuseppe Argenziano speaks about Spitz naevi – “schizophrenic” tumours which are convinced they are melanomas when in fact they are benign naevi.

About one quarter of Spitz naevi resemble melanoma, dermoscopically and histopathologically. Prof Argenziano discusses how two lesions which appear to be identical could be diagnosed as either a Spitz naevus or a melanoma, depending on the age of the patient.

Prof Argenziano looks at the case of a three-year-old boy with a Spitz naevus that shows all the characteristics of a melanoma over a period of several months. He also discusses how these lesions can disappear over time and resolve themselves.

See all this and much more – with real patient examples – in the full video below!
